Downtown Cleveland’s Pierogi Power

The sixth annual Downtown Cleveland Restaurant Week commences on February 22nd and runs through March 3rd, and this year, for the first time, is extending through two weekends to give diners an extra weekend to participate.

We’re often asked why Downtown Cleveland Restaurant Week doesn’t take place during the summer when our restaurants’ beautiful patios are open and the weather is nice. Well, when those patios are open and the weather is nice, you are all visiting Downtown anyway. We want to bring you into the city during a season in which you might otherwise not make the trip.

Downtown Cleveland Restaurant Week takes place every year towards the end of February and is open to all Downtown restaurants that have menus with price ranges that fit the RW guidelines. For the past six years, more than 40 of Downtown’s finest dining destinations have created special price-fixed menus to appeal to foodies, families, friends and everyone in between. The goal of Downtown Cleveland Restaurant Week is to encourage diners to try something new while experiencing Cleveland’s one-of-a-kind culinary scene.

As if Cleveland doesn’t have enough greatness to celebrate, we wanted to also embrace the variety of culture of our city. When you think Cleveland culture, we’re sure many things come to mind. For us, it was instantly the Pierogi.

Today, people are flocking to Downtown Cleveland to live, work, and play. Well, back in the early 1900s, folks from Poland, Slovakia and other European regions were flocking to Cleveland to do the same as they started their new lives. When they came to our great city, they brought with them their cultures, and with that came the Pierogi. Over the years, generations didn’t want to leave their heritages behind, so the Pierogi became a popular dish around town, representing the diverse mixture of ethnic groups that helped make Cleveland what it is today.

Thus, Pierogi Power was born.

Our talented and creative local chefs have spiced up their Restaurant Week menus this year by adding their own twists on the Pierogi. Get your appetites ready to go as you read the Pierogi Power specials that will be featured during the week.
