The 4th of July always seems to sneak up on us, doesn’t it? This early summer holiday commemorates the Declaration of Independence; it is a day to celebrate our country and our freedom. It is a day to celebrate where we call home, and Downtown Cleveland is the hub of these celebrations.
A week-long celebration:
A dtCLE tradition– Come on down to Public Square along with thousands of your neighbors and friends for a fabulous evening full of traditions. Since 1989, The Cleveland Orchestra has presented a free concert in Downtown Cleveland every summer. This community celebration concert features patriotic favorites, symphonic classics and fireworks. Coming in from the ‘burbs? Find your nearest rapid stop, grab an all-day RTA pass for only $5 and take the train right into Tower City. For more information, click here.
Welcome in the Tall Ships – Since this is a week about celebrating the beauty of our country and our freedom, take this chance to attend the Parade of Sail at Voinovich Park. The Parade of Sail will welcome the fleet of Majestic Tall Ships that are coming to North Coast Harbor for the Tall Ships Festival (see below!)
Where can I watch the fireworks in dtCLE?
RTA Family FunFest – This year marks the ninth annual Family FunFest at Settler’s Landing. When we say “family fun fest,” we mean it! Come down to the Flats around 6:30, enjoy a 12-piece Sousa band, enjoy the festival, and then stick around for the beautiful firework display. Don’t forget a blanket! RTA service makes travel to and from the Flats super fast and super convenient. . Park for free at an RTA Rapid Station, ride the Rapid to Tower City, and take Waterfront Line to the Settler’s Landing Station. Waterfront Line trains will be running every 15 minutes. The last train leaving Settler’s Landing will be 30 minutes after the fireworks end. Click here for more information.
Red, White and Brew at the Aquarium – Spend the holiday under the sea, checking out the Aquarium’s best exhibits. Afterwards, head on to the boardwalk and gaze at those beautiful views of dtCLE’s skyline and the Cuyahoga River. As part of the evening’s activities, you’ll receive VIP seating to watch the fireworks on the Cityview Patio and the Riverview Patio Bar and Grill. For more info, click here.
Fireworks and Tall Ships – What a blast! – Looking for the perfect destination to watch the fireworks? Head on over to the Tall Ships Festival where you can board the majestic ships and enjoy soaking in the Cleveland sun as part of the $5 after 5 deal. Pack your blankets and lawn chairs!

On the water – We will admit, it is hard to beat a view that shows dtCLE’s phenomenal lit up skyline as well as the beautiful 4th of July fireworks. Hop on the Nautica Queen or the Goodtime III to enjoy a night on the water with the one-of-a-kind views!

Hot dogs, fireworks and baseball. Does it get more American?– Can’t get enough fireworks on the 4th? Have no fear, the Tribe has you taken care of. Bring the family down to the Indians game on Friday the 5th when the Detroit Tigers come to Cleveland. Cheer on our team while you chow down on dollar dogs. Make sure you stick around after the game to enjoy Patriotic themed fireworks presented by Discount Drug Mart!
Celebrate our history – The Tall Ships Festival showcases the diverse Great Lakes maritime history, giving visitors the opportunity to board the beautiful vessels, meet the crew and experience the heritage that these ships symbolize. *July 5th is also Military Day – bring your military ID or come dressed in your uniform for free admission!
Bleed red, white and blue – As part of the Tall Ships Festival, American Red Cross will host a Blood Drive along with Rotary Club of Cleveland and the Port of Cleveland. Summer in the Square – Our friends at the Horseshoe Casino will reveal a summer promo *so large* that they’re hosting a festival to announce it. On Friday the 5th, from 11am-10pm, the casino will host a festival outside the main entrance in Public Square. Folks over 21 should come with their IDs to have fun with a bandstand, food and a beer truck. AC Slater – err, I mean Mario Lopez will be hosting a Celebrity Wiffle Ball Game at 5:30 with the following players: Larry Nance, Austin Carr, Carlos Baerga, Len Barker, Mike Hargove, Kevin Mack and more.
