The Downtown Cleveland Alliance and other area organizations have been honored with awards at the annual conferences for the International Downtown Association and the International Economic Development Council earlier this month.
The NineTwelve District is receiving international attention for its achievements! The Downtown Cleveland Alliance was given a Merit Award in the category of Economic and Business Development from the International Downtown Association for their work in revitalizing the NineTwelve District. The submission was chosen from nearly 70 applicants from downtowns around the world, and the award was given earlier this week at IDA’s annual conference.
The entry focused on the NineTwelve District’s evolution to become the fastest growing district in Downtown Cleveland. When the district was formed in 2009, there were many office vacancies and few restaurants, retail stores and residential buildings. Today, office occupancy is at new heights, more than 2,500 new jobs have been committed to the district over the past two and a half years, there are seven new residential projects that have recently come online or are in the pipeline, and the NineTwelve District has become a hotspot for new retail.
The Downtown Cleveland Alliance also was honored along with the City of Cleveland and Greater Cleveland RTA at this year’s International Economic Development Council conference. The group was given a bronze Partnership Award for the recent expansion of the RTA’s free trolley program in Downtown. The trolley expansion aims to connect workers, residents and visitors to key Downtown attractions such as the Global Center for Health Innovation and Convention Center, the Horseshoe Casino, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame & Museum, and the Great Lakes Science Center. At the conference, additional awards were also given to the City of Cleveland for the Flats East Bank Development, and JumpStart for its entrepreneurial network support.
